U.S. News Ranks Best Places to Live and Retire (2024-25 Rankings)

Green Bay's ranking in the 2024-25 report:

#12 in best places to live
#16 in best cities to retire in

When scoring Green Bay, U.S. News gave Green Bay a score of 6.9/10 for quality of life and 7.9/10 for value.

Green Bay ranked higher than Madison and Milwaukee in both best places to live and retire. U.S. News contributor Kristin A. Bouchard described Green Bay as "the perfect mix of big-city amenities complemented with a Midwestern, small-town feel."  Read the full article. 

RentCafe.com Ranks Cities from Coast to Coast as Most Livable Places in 2024 

To determine livability, RentCafe, an online rental marketplace, evaluated 139 U.S. metros across three main categories: socioeconomics, quality of life, and location and community. Green Bay ranked #9 as the most livable city. Within that ranking it was:

  • #4 for socioeconomics
  • #14 for location and community
  • #32 for quality of life

RentCafe.com shares that the Green Bay metro area's claim to fame is the beautiful natural surroundings, a strong sense of community, family-friendly attractions, and cost-of-living 8% below the national average. 

Green Bay is home to:

  • The University of Wisconsin - Green Bay
  • Northeast Wisconsin Technical College
  • Three health care systems
  • Multiple large employers and industries
  • Robust park system which includes trails, water attractions, Bay Beach Amusement Park and the Wildlife Sanctuary
  • The Weidner Center for the Performing Arts
  • The NFL's Green Bay Packers
